The other day I read a post on the Westminster website about the “best restaurants” to eat at if you are staying in NYC for the dog show. This bothered me a little because I had never even heard of any of them. We have been going to Westminster and dining out in NYC for the past fifteen years. So I decided to tell you about my favorite places to eat!
The area around Madison Square Garden has quite a few excellent restaurants to choose from.
First of all, our absolute favorite restaurant for an unforgettable steak dinner is Keens Steakhouse on 36th St. an easy walk from the garden. Established in 1885, this place is the epitome of an old NY steakhouse! The food is wonderful, service is excellent and the atmosphere is lively. You will see a dog show judge or two there as well! I always get the filet mignon, creamed spinach and massed potatoes. Reservations are a must.

My other favorite is Artisanal Bistro on Park Ave. between 32nd and 33rd. This is a French bistro that is a neighborhood favorite. We eat there at least twice when we come to the dog shows. This is old school French food, the fondue is great and the French onion soup is wonderful. My favorite dish is the mussels with white wine.
They serve lunch and dinner and have a great weekend brunch.

If you are in the mood to splurge, try Eleven Madison Park on Madison Ave. at 24th St. This is an elegant food experience. You must get the tasting menu which is constructed by the chef. There are several small courses that are simply amazing. The wine parings are excellent. It is expensive but it’s worth it! It is one of the best restaurants in New York City. Reservations are a must.
