Pre-Westminster doggie fashion show among big weekend events

New York Pet Fashion Show at Westminster 2014The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has always been the second Monday and Tuesday in February. But the fun starts the Friday before. If you are in town you must check out the Pre-Westminster fashion show (for dogs), I guarantee you will have a memorable experience! Dogs and people come dressed to impress and this year the theme is “Royalty”.

Rocky will be wearing a royal blue princely outfit complete with a crown and I have a lovely tiara for myself.  Be prepared to walk the red carpet if you dare, the affair is being filmed for TV. There will be a runway fashion show for dogs and their owners, complimentary food, a cash bar and vendors selling a variety of dog items.

This will be the fourth year we have attended the show and it has always been a lot of fun! The 2014 N. Y. Pet Fashion Show is a charity event that benefits many shelters and rescue groups all over N. Y. City. The event runs from 6 to 11 pm Friday, Feb. 7th at the Penn Top Ballroom in the Hotel Pennsylvania (across from Madison Square Garden). Tickets are $40.00 in advance and $50.00 at the door.

And yes, YouTube has a big collection of videos showing both dogs and people all dressed up from past events.

There are also several dog shows prior to Westminster that are open to the public. On Friday from 8am to 7pm, The Progressive Dog Club show will be held at the Penn Plaza Pavilion in the Hotel Pennsylvania. This is for toy dogs only, so if you love little dogs you can see lots of them for an admission fee of $10.00. And be sure to check out the hotel lobby, there will be dogs everywhere. Most Westminster hopefuls stay at this hotel. There are also some high end vendors selling some beautiful doggie apparel and dog themed jewelry that are worth a look.

On Saturday and Sunday, there are the “NYMS” New York Metro Specialties at the same location and times. The are eleven dog clubs represented including Chihuahua, French Bull Dog, Boston Terrier, Papillon and Miniature Pinscher. For more information on these shows and other Westminster events go to
